Over-70 Drivers

The heading for this page doesn't mean that all the elderly people in the pictures never drive their cars at anything less than 70 m.p.h. On the contrary, it refers to what are probably the district's most careful and prudent drivers...those who are more than 70 years of age, but in today's busy traffic whirl must balance maturity of judgment against a declining standard of skill at the wheel.

At the invitation of the Senior Traffic Officer, Mr B. M. Boyle, the "Over-Seventies" gathered recently for a refresher talk, when these pictures were taken.

Mr Boyle went helpfully through the road code, and answered a number of questions. Tests of Over-70 drivers began this week.
