Anzac Service At Gisborne

Beautiful weather prevailed for the annual Anzac Day service at Gisborne, when big crowds mustered to pay tribute in remembrance of the district's war dead.

They saw an impressive parade of returned men, and heard from the Rev. T. V. Pearson, E.D. and Bar, L.Th., C.F., vicar of Gisborne, an inspiring address in which he made a plea that rejoicing as well as solemn remembrance should be a part of Anzac Day.

The day began with a Dawn Parade when over 500 returned men assembled at the waterfront and marched to the Cenotaph.

For the citizens' service which followed, the parade marched from the War Memorial Hall to the river bank opposite the Cenotaph for the service, after which it reformed and marched over the Kaiti bridge and past the memorial.
