Burton Bowls "Hat Trick"

History was made this Easter in the annual tussle for the Burton Trophy, Gisborne's premier bowling contest of the year. For the third time in succession, Geoff Weatherley's Kahutia four took the handsome cup home, thus making history as the first team ever to win the trophy three times in a row. Their win is believed to have broken another record in making them the first four to win it twice without change in the team.

It was one of the windiest contests on record, with strong westerlies making conditions difficult in otherwise perfect weather over the first three days. Bowlers from all East Coast and Gisborne clubs competed, and there were also many outside entries.
