Janice McKay, of Otoko, with the Koala bear she won in a recent competition. The koala was sent to Gisborne by Mrs Elliott, otherwise known to hundreds of Gisborne children as "Aunt Daisy" for display in Midway Music Store, to be won by the competitor who guessed its name correctly. Janice picked the right name, which was "Blossom".

Heading for 16 days of adventure with the Outward Bound school is 16-year-old Ian Cameron, son of Mrs J. E. Cameron, Bushmere Road, Gisborne. Ian, who works for Fisher & Paykel in Auckland, was selected for the camp and is pictured here boarding a launch for Motutapu Island.

Jan McDowell, daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Dowell, 47 Anzac Street, corresponded for years with a pen pal in Brisbane, Rose-Lyn Nunn. Last month, accepting an invitation from Rose-Lyn, Jan took off for Brisbane to meet her friend in the flesh. She will stay with Rose-Lyn, get a job, and spend 12 months or so in Brisbane. Picture shows Rose-Lyn (left) and Jan after their meeting. Both are 20. Rose-Lyn is a cosmetician, and Jan a shorthand-typist.
