Water Ski Display

The display staged by members of the Rotorua Water Ski Club in the Gisborne harbour channel recently drew a big crowd, many of whom were seeing expert water ski-ing stunts for the first time.

The day was intensely hot, and many of the spectators were envying the performers as they sped along the channel in showers of spray.

The display should help to foster the sport in Gisborne.

An attempt was made several times by Peter Emily to ski on water without skis....in other words barefoot. But all attempts failed due, it was said, to the choppy water.

Local enthusiasts had built a small platform for a jumping demonstration. At left and below the auto-camera catches three stages of a jump by Rod Bellerby, captain of the Rotorua Club, formerly of Gisborne.
