Holden's Hill Records Broken

Over the past six or seven years, members of the Gisborne Car Club have seen the record for the Holden's Hill speed climb break the even minute and gradually approach the fabled 50-second mark. Whether the car and driver exist who can climb the hill in 50sec. is something for the future, but in a rally at the hill this month, members had a good try for it. Terry Johnstone, driving his Gisborne designed and built Satellite, made a record run of 53.2sec, breaking the record established in 1954 by G. Palmer, of Hamilton, in his 3000 c.c. V8 special. In the 2000-3000 c.c. class, Robbie Taylor, in his Austin-Healey, established a new record for the class of 55.5sec.
