Big strawberries are almost common-place this summer, and here Graeme Calder holds two real whoppers grown by his father David Calder. They are a new American variety called Lassen.

Flood damage up the East Coast includes transformation of Ruatoria's bowling green from its customary "velvet sward" to this "ploughed paddock" effect. Mrs F. Brock, 110 Ash Street, Avondale, sent these pictures showing her pet pony in action. She has taught it many tricks, including the one at right where it jumps through a hoop in which her son is lying prone. Mrs Brock was formerly of Waimata Valley, a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Gambirazzi.
