For Jerry Merito, the visit of the Howard Morrison Quartette to Ward 6 at Cook Hospital was filled with nostalgia. Jerry (seen above with the Guitar) was no stranger to Ward 6. He spent four years there with a bone infection, made a complete recovery before returning to his home in Whakatane. "I'd like to meet Mr Parke again. I owe him a lot," Jerry told "Photo News".
Standing there in the bright sunlight, with the sweet smell of success about him, he must have looked like a living symbol of hope to the patients in his old ward.
