Impressive Crowning Ceremony

In a colourful and impressive ceremony in the War Memorial Hall last month, Margaret Te Puni, "Green Queen" in the Basketball Association's fund-raising contest, was crowned by the Mayor, Mr H. H. Barker.

The contest raised nearly £1000 for the Association's funds.

The ceremony was the highlight of a coronation ball. It began with the entry of twenty "duchesses", followed by the four "Queens" and their attendants. After the "Court Crier" (Mr R. Gardiner) had read the address, Mrs Te Puni was crowned and presentations were made to the "Queens" and others associated with the contest.
