Roller Hockey

Second-fastest game in the world is how Roller Hockey is described. (The fastest: ice-hockey). And watching the teams competing in the Queen's Birthday weekend tournament at Alfred Cox Memorial Park skating rink, this is quite easy to believe. The speed with which the players travel from one end of the court to the other has to be seen to be believed.

Six teams competed, from Gisborne, Napier, Hastings and Nelson. Last year's winners, the boys from Napier, again emerged the victors. This team is champion of New Zealand at present.

As Napier's goalie gets ready, Gisborne's Keith Pardoe (white shorts) takes a shot at goal. Almost on to him is the Napier captain, Tony Newton.

Newton fights it out in this one with Gisborne's Jon Chiplin, followed by N. Thompson and Bob Newton.
