Throw the Man Down

Girls, have you ever felt like tossing the boy friend out the front door?

Believe us, you can win that argument every time if you take up Judo. Does he disagree? Then dump him on the floor a couple of times. Not enough? Then throw him over your shoulder.

It's as easy as that!

If you don't believe us, take a look at Jean McCallion and Anthea Russell on this page. They're only five footers, and they're throwing Warren Whitehead (six ft. high and built proportionately) about the place like he was an old pork chop.

Jean hoists him over her shoulder....

...and Warren's headed for a 1-point landing.

Anthea, long blonde hair flying, goes into action....

....and he's really heading for the mat

Pictures were taken at a public demonstration given by members of the Gisborne Judo Club recently, to stimulate interest in this interesting and beneficial sport.

Although girls can in fact throw a heavy man about, the feat is not performed by brawn and brute strength, but by skilful manipulation. Even the lightest and slightest person can excel at the sport, which is derived from the Japanese Ju–jitsu, which, translated, means "the gentle art", or "to conquer by yielding".
