Special Occasions

When John Pitcher, of Gisborne, was spear fishing off Lottin Point, near East Cape, he shot and captured a 308lb Porbeagle shark.

It is probably a record of its kind, but as it was shot from the bank, this will probably not be recognised.

An artist friend of the Pitcher family was not slow to send his congratulations from Auckland, and his novel message is printed above, along with a picture of John viewing the world through the jaw-bone of his hefty catch.
