Thrilling Polo
Gisborne followers of polo had a feast of international matches earlier this month when visits to the district were made by the Santa Barbara team, of California, and the touring Queenslanders.
Santa Barbara played two games, against Poverty Bay B, which they won 7 to 3, and against Poverty Bay A, which they won by 6 to 5.
In the senior match an unfortunate accident occurred when the Santa Barbara star goal-shooter, W. Allen, fell from his pony, and suffered facial injuries. He was replaced by Clive Forsyth, Auckland, who was travelling with the visitors.

The series of four pictures above shows how Willis Allen came down when he fell from his pony in the game against Poverty Bay A. It was not clear how he came to start his fall, but the first picture above was taken as his feet hit the ground, travelling fast, and the next two show him taking a very hard fall.
