Tony Pickett, the young Gisborne swimmer, now in Auckland, who has pepped up his 1OOyds freestyle time to the point where he is about the fastest man in New Zealand over that distance, and a serious contender for Olympic honours.

Barry Johnson, a pupil of Marist Brothers' High School, has been awarded a post-primary teacher studentship. Barry, who is the youngest son of Mr and Mrs W. C. Johnson, 22 Herbert Road, will commence his studies at Auckland University next year.

Mr R. G. Taylor, who has been farming in the Gisborne district for a number of years, leaves in February to commence studies for the ministry at the Baptist Theological College, Auckland.

Mrs L. C. Green recently celebrated her 80th birthday, and the occasion was the first time for many years that all her 11 sons and daughters were reunited.
