Up in the Air

A distant connection with the thrills and excitement of the Rongotai air pageant was provided Gisborne residents when one of the Vulcan swept-wing bombers paid the city a short visit. The big aircraft approached Gisborne from the direction of Kaiti Hill, traversed Gladstone Road at low level, and was off to other parts.

Mr Joseph Clark, of Aberdeen Rd., pictured with Captain V. Moran as he boards an N. A. C. plane at Darton Field on the first leg of an air trip to Australia to visit relatives. Mr Clark is 93 years of age. He is well known in the Salvation Army, and is a regular visitor to Cook Hospital. The oldest passenger so far to make trans-Tasman flight was 97.
