Motu Sidelights

The Motu is in the news these days, what with power projects of staggering immensity. On this page are a few of the lesser items of interest from the district.

This old man wild boar has been sought for a long time by Motu shooters. It was finally caught in the ranges at the back of Motu by T. Whitehead and F. Englebretsen.

When a Gisborne tramping party went into the Motu recently, three of the five members had never seen snow before. They had all they wanted by the time they returned.

Echoes of the early days of motor transport in the Matawai-Motu district sound with these old pictures. At right is R. Robb's first "stinkwagon", one of the early Ford trucks, seen loading at Rotorua. The trip over the Motu took five days.
