Miss Frances Burdett, of Tokomaru Bay, who received the O.B.E. in the Queen's Birthday Honours. Miss Burdett attended Gisborne High School in 1916-1920, after which she entered the nursing profession at Napier Hospital. For 14 years until 1957 she was lady superintendent of the Alexandra Hospital, and in that year represented the N. Z. Registered Nurses' Association at the International Congress for Nurses held in Rome. Miss Burdett, who now lives at Tokomaru Bay, is president of the East Coast Branch of Registered Nurses, and president or the Tokomaru Bay W.D.F.F.

The Gisborne team which won the Henri Dunant Shield at the national Red Cross Cadet Competitions at Lower Hutt in May. At rear: Cadets J. Barker, R. Brown, G. Brown, J. Davis. In front: S/Sgt.T. Brown, Mr N. F. Jones (commandant), Cpl D. Hall.
The team was also second for the Gertrude Bonner Cup and S/Sgt Brown won the Victor Casson Cup for best leader in the Gertrude Bonner Cup competition.
