The problem of erosion at Waikanae Beach near the mouth of the Turanganui River (known locally as "The Cut") has been tackled during the past month or two by the construction of an extended concrete apron in the direction of the beach pavilion. A large quantity of spoil has also been dumped along the foreshore, and some trees have been removed, which opens up a view of the bay from this part of the camping area.

Continuing the City Council's work of improving the beach frontages, Norfolk pines have been planted right along the Robert Rd.-Stanley Rd. beaches. The pinea are protected by these cover boxes.
