Dry Lake

Once every so often Lake Repongaere, beyond Patutahi, goes dry. The last time was in 1951. Now the lake bed is fully revealed again, and the ducks are wondering where to go next. So are the duck shooters.

When the bed dries out completely, as it was a fortnight ago, the odour is far from pleasant for nearby settlers.

The few trickles of water in the picture below, taken from Mr Smart's farm, were left after an overnight shower.
