New School Baths at Kaiti

A notable day for Kaiti School occurred recently, when in conjuction with the school gala, the new swimming baths were opened. Picture above, with school in background, shows the baths being given their initial use, with parents, children, and supporters crowding outside the wire.

The chairman of the chool committee, Mr G. Sheppard, speaking at the opening ceremony. In group, left to right, are Mr D. Brooking, secretary of the committee; Mrs J. T. Hill; Mr J. T. Hill, ward member of the Education Board; Mrs J. Thorburn; Mr J. Thorburn, who was chairman of the combined baths committee (Te Wharau and Kaiti), and who was named as the man most responsible for the successful completion of the project; Mr Sheppard; Mrs Sheppard; Mr W. J. Phillips, headmaster; Mrs Phillips; Mrs T. Morgan; Mr T. Morgan, building supervisor for the Education Board.
