Landmarks Disappear

The fate of two magnificent Norfolk pine trees at 36 Stout Street, the home of the late Mr A. H. Wall, was sealed last month when the trees were felled to make room for a housing subdivision.

The larger of the two was 108 feet high. It took a tractor winch and two truck winches to pull it over, even after a deep channel had been cut close to the roots,

Mr Harry McCoy, who purchased the property, did not want the roots left in the ground, but pulling the trees over proved to be a tough proposition.

They were planted in 1888.
