Personnel of the Royal New Zealand Air Force who arrived in Gisborne recently by Bristol freighter to attend the funeral of Fit.-Sgt. Pare Te Wai, B.E.M., of Gisborne (left).

Mr Te Wai was born in Tokomaru Bay, where the funeral was held. He served with the Maori Battalion in World War I, and enlisted with the Air Force in 1941. After the war, he was an instructor with the A.T.C, and was one of the Force's best known members.

Mr Peter Phin, of Mangapapa, who has returned to Gisborne after two years in the New Hebrides, is seen here with two New Hebridian visitors to Gisborne, Roy Rarua and Kalpua Peter. The two boys have been touring New Zealand as guests of Presbyterian missionaries who have served in the islands.
