Beautifully fine weather favoured the two-day summer meeting of the Poverty Bay Turf Club at Makaraka; in fact the second day proved to be almost too much of a good thing, and the heat was said to have affected the betting figures.

The start of the Wharekaka Trial Stakes on the second day, and
