Battle of the Mighty Midgets

Built to a required standard pattern, they are normally powered with 500 c.c. motor cycle engines.

Although these midgets do not attain speeds of sonic proportions, they provide a thrilling sport for both driver and spectator alike.

After almost a year of hard work on the part of the owners, Gisborne now has its own fleet of midget racing cars.

As it is nigh impossible to overturn them, the midgets can race the circuit at full speed, without, as a rule, having to slow down for the bends.

They are, however, very prone to broadsiding and a driver has his hands full keeping his car in control.

That midget car racing is a popular spectator sport is well evidenced by this picture of the crowd, when local racers held a meeting at the show grounds.
