Hooping for Fun

Since its introduction in America the hoop craze has been on the way. Now it's here with a vengeance.
Kathryn O'Dowda here demonstrates the three hoop technique, while cover girl Briar Irwin sits by.

After merely a few weeks on sale in the city, hoops are now a common-place, especially on school playgrounds.

When "Photo News" paid a lunch hour visit to the Central School there was hardly a child without at least one hoop, some with more.

Gisborne can claim to be well in the fashion with hoops. At the time of going to press, hula hoops were still unknown in the South Island.

As well as their original use of "hula hooping", many kiddies have found the colourful hoops ideal as skipping ropes. Here a young trio gives a practical demonstration for the camera.
