Please To Remember

Ever since the original and now legendary gunpowder plot of 1605, people throughout the world have reserved November 5th to mark the occasion with the lighting of bonfires and the exploding of countless numbers of firecrackers.

Although the name associated with the occasion is Guy Fawkes, the man originally responsible for planning the destruction of the House of Lords, was one Robert Catesby.

The only reason for the hapless Mr Fawkes' name being perpetuated is that he was the one to be caught and hanged for the intended crime.

"Photo News" cameras this year visited the Te Hapara Scouts' function at Ayton Park and a particularly spectacular affair at Mangapapa Reserve. The fire at Mangapapa was so immense that its plume of thick black' smoke could be seen from all parts of the city.
