New Hall at Puketawai

The new Maori War Memorial Hall at Puketawai (two miles north of Tolaga Bay) was opened and dedicated on September 27 in the presence of a large gathering of East Coast and district Maoris. The handsome new building, erected on the marae at Puketawai a few chains off the main north road, commemorates members of the Maori community who fell in the Great Wars. It was officially opened by Mr Te Wiri Wiri Ihaia after a dedication service conducted by the Rev. W. B. Turei.
