What the Well Dressed Schoolgirl Wears

Women's fashions have come along way in the 100,000 odd years that separate the two styles pictured above. They were part of a Parade of Fashions run by 5th form members of the Girls' High School, to raise funds for their school piano, to be put in their assembly hall (when they have an assembly hall in which to put it).

From left to right are:

That hideous "thing" from the cave era, in real life, is Noeline Saxeby and don't be misled by the costume - she's actually a very nice girl!

×

At the other end of the fashion scale come the widgies: Dianna Humphries, Carol Jane, Lynda Tawhiri, Marion Harvey.

1.Janet Leggatt looks really slinky in this Roman Toga;

2.Gillian Gibson as Robin Hood symbolises the Gothic period;

×

3.Dianna Ball models a monstrosity from the Elizabethan era;

×

4.Rae McGuffie looks almost biblical in this peasant costume of last century.

From left to right the models are:

×

1.Lynne Salmon in a frock from the Gilbert and Sullivan period;

×

2.First World War's "slinky line" is obviously a big joke to Rachael Frazer;

×

3.Here it is - the "flapper" costume of the twenties. Who said something about "H line"? The model is Winifred MacLean;

×

4.Coming back to sanity, Margaret Quinlivan models the trim costume of the 30's and 40's. But don't relax, there's more to come.

1.The duffle coat and matadors of the 50's modelled by Yvonne Maunder;

2.And here, girls, is the genuine sack. The delicate fabric was supplied by an obliging coal merchant. On Jackie Renouf this hemp and jute textile looks almost charming;

×

3.Dianna Rice models the fashionable harem line;

×

4.Fashion parade compere looked almost out of place in her neat gym frock and blazer.
