"Classic" Hockey match

Although defeated by six goals to nil, the Poverty Bay hockey reps put up a fine performance against a formidable Australian touring team.

Although their forward play was disappointing, the Bay backs showed up well against stiff opposition, especially half - back Hori Underdown, and full-backs Morrie Peters (injured late in the second half) and captain Robin Shields.

This penalty bully right in front of the Australian goal, had crowd and players on their toes. Indeed, the Bay were unlucky not to score. Note the locked sticks of inside left Don Jackson and Aussie full back Leeson.
