For Those Who See ...

These pages are inserted in this issue of "Photo News", as are all pages of this publication, for the benefit of those enjoying good eye-sight. The majority of people featured in these pages will never see these pictures - most of them are blind.

Blind, but far from discontented with life, and certainly not helpless invalids. Look hard at those people pictured above. Do they look downcast with their lot? Far from it. The picture was taken at the monthly social gathering of the Gisborne branch of the New Zealand Foundation for the Blind (previously called the Blind Institute).

What a blind person must sacrifice through loss of sight, is made up for in other ways. Take the case of Mr D. J. Dalrymple, McDonald St. As a result of war injuries, he has very limited vision, which renders him unsuited for normal forms of employment. Rather than resign himself to the life of an invalid, however, Mr Dalrymple has perfected the art of leather-work, specialising in plaiting bridles from long thin strands of leather, thus providing himself with an interesting pastime as well as a sourse of income.
