Roving Camera

One life-long citizen of Kaiti has been crossing the Gladstone Road bridge at least twice a day for years without noticing anything in particular about it.

But one morning recently something was wrong, it was different and it wasn't until somebody told him that he realized the change.

The old light standards, which long ago outwore their usefulness, had been removed. City Council workers are pictured here removing the old standards.

A huge plume of smoke filling the early afternoon sky, had the fire brigade out on masse to a section on the corner of Aberdeen and Lytton Roads.
Although the pall suggested something more disastrous, the smoke was billowing voluminously from an aging shed. Picture was taken as fire was coming under control, shows power board linesman disconnecting power feeders.
