The Church that Crossed the River

Another stage was completed this month in the varied history of a church which once stood in Cobden Street, Gisborne. Forty years ago, it was moved out to Waerenga-a-hika, where it served as chapel for the Maori College. It was left there for long after the college was destroyed by fire, until two years ago, when it was transported across the Waipaoa river to a new site at Waituhi, near Patutahi. Earlier this month it was re-dedicated in the service of the Maori community of Waituhi.
