The kumara season is upon us, and the "Photo News" telephone rings to announce bigger and better kumaras. But never before had we heard of, and then seen, a kumara shaped like a bird. This remarkably life-like replica, measuring six inches from "beak" to "tail", was grown by Mr A. East, of Darwin Road.

At the Autumn Carnival much interest was aroused, especially among the younger males in the attendance, by the excellent display of Air Force equipment arranged by members of the Gisborne Air Training Corps. This picture shows some of the light armaments on display being demonstrated.
