New Air Centre

The new National Airways Corporation air centre in Bright Street was opened last month, and became the latest of the many new buildings to be completed in Gisborne in recent times.

Standing just off Gladstone Road, behind the A.M.P. Building, the new centre will be centrally situated to handle the growing volume of N.A.C. business in passengers and freight.

How that the scaffolding has been removed from the new Bank of New Zealand building in Gladstone Road, the public has been given an idea of how this completely modernised building will look when it is opened shortly. Photograph was taken from balcony of Coronation Hotel.

Another major reconstruction job is taking place in Bright Street, where the entire front portion of Allen Bros. and Johnstone's garage premises is being rebuilt in reinforced concrete, replacing the former brick: construction.
