Nine members of the newly-formed Gisborne Canoe Club spent a February weekend in the Tiniroto district, where they climbed whakapunake. Caves in nearby limestone country were also investigated. After a three-hour chase in a 14ft boat two Te Araroa fishermen, S. Houkamau and A. Brooking caught this 10ft 4in swordfish at Hicks Bay.

Bill McLeod, of the Fire Station, with the 346lb hammerhead shark he caught at Russell while on holiday there. It was the biggest fish of the season at Russell.
