Six of Gisborne's bridges are included in this picture shot from the air above Kaiti. At left is the Gladstone Road bridge, at right the controversial William Pettie bridge. Up the Taruheru, in order, are the bridges at Peel Street, Derby Street, the Gardens, and Roebuck Road.

Walter Anderson, Centennial Crescent, with a snapper caught at Waikanae Beach recently. A whopper, it weighed 24 lb 7oz, and it was hooked on a 14lb line.

Additional bridge piles such as that at right, have been completed at the Waipaoa railway bridge. Next stage is to build new superstructure, and raise old bridge to new level so that river will have more room, both in width and height.
