Farewell to Gisborne Doctors

Seldom have farewells been as touching, or good wishes been as genuine, as those tendered in the past week or two to Dr. R. J. B. Hall, O.B.E., and Dr. Theo Hall, who are leaving the district after a long association with Cook Hospital, to live in retirement at the Bav of Islands. As medical superintendent and senior physician respectively, their long service is considered unique in that, although they have celebrated their silver wedding, they have spent all their married life at Cook Hospital.

But it is not for their record of service, or their competence and brilliance as doctors, that Dr and Mrs Hall would be remembered most for. As speaker after speaker emphasised at farewell gatherings last week, they would be remembered most for their kindly, comforting interest in all their patients. They never seemed to forget a name or a patient, and so, having earned the esteem, respect, and affection of all, they in turn would never be forgotten.

Pictures on these pages were taken at the hospital's farewell.
