At the final concert of the year presented by the Cosmopolitan club orchestra, a presentation wes made by the club president, Mr W. Newcomb, to Mrs W.Lighton, the first lady member of the orchestra, who joined in 1943.

Miss Grace Pryde, a member of the staff of Wises Ice Cream Ltd., who has returned home to Brisbane after 15 months spent in Gisborne. A niece of the manager of Wises, Mr J. B. Waugh, she is seen here with Mr and Mrs Waugh.

Mr Mark James Benson, of Leith St., Gisborne, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday. Mr Benson, whose mother was one of the first three white children born in Poverty Bay, was born at the Maori College at Waerenga-a-hika.
For many years he was farming at Ormond. Mr Benson is a living link with the famous Te Kooti massacre. As a boy of 12 months he was carried on his mother's back to Nuhaka at the time of the massacre.
