Jap Ship Pays Visit

After a dramatic exchange of signals in the international code with the Kaiti Signal Station, the small Japanese fishing vessel, Koyu Maru No.5 (250 tons) was admitted to Gisborne harbour last month to obtain medical attention for an injured sailor.

The vessel, a tuna fisher, was on a voyage from Japan to the vicinity of the Marlborough Sounds. The man was crushed by a fall of ice in the refrigerated hold when the ship was four days out from Gisborne.

He was admitted to Cook Hospital.
