Guy Fawkes Night At The Beach

Since the authorities installed mercury vapour lamps at waikanae Beach, the promenade has been a much brighter place at night, but even the brilliance of the new lights paled on Guy Fawkes night when the Beach Carnival Committee presented its annual fireworks display for the entertainment of thousands of visitors.

About £200 worth of fireworks were set off, producing a brilliant display which was made brighter still by the many bonfires lit along the beach.
