Rugby in the Mud
Like the opening of the Lytton Road bridge, the annual match between the Olympians and Poverty Bay last Saturday was something of a damp squib. Although the rain ceased as the game started, the unpleasant conditions had reduced the crowd by a good half, and the players had to contend with a muddy field which did not produce the best of football. The game resulted in a win for the visitors by 12 points to 8.
Jim Duncan, playing half for Olympians, kicks for line as Jones (centre) comes up fast. Between them are Wooster and Lament. At far left: Edwards, Olympian full-back.
How To Get Your Man: Trevor Riley, ex-P.B. player, now Auckland rep., comes across to intercept Don Green.
This is how he did it. Minutes later, Green scored nice try in similar move engineered by Sonny Rutene.
