Flood in the cut

Floods in the Waipaoa have been few and far between of late — in fact until this month the big river had been really well-behaved.

But then the rains came—–as come they must —and soon the gauge at Kanakanaia was reading 12ft, and 14ft, and 16 ft.

The flood was enough to overflow into the Matawhero cut, but not enough to make any major change of a permanent nature. When the flood receded indications were that more excavation will be required to achieve this.
