New Buildings In The City

The steady march of progress in Gisborne brings a continuous change in the skyline. There are not many streets without some form of building being built, remodelled, or added to.

The handsome new Methodist Church in Gladstone Road, a few yards west of Roebuck Road. The church is to be opened next Saturday, June 29, and the occasion will be marked by a week of special events.

The new school for intellectually handicapped children in the course of construction at the corner of Bright Street and Kahutia Street. Extensive use is being made of glass in the building.

Four Square stores' new home in Gladstone Road near Dominion Road has 5000 square feet of warehouse space. Enormous roof has no pillars, is supported by steel arches. In front of warehouse are administrative and staff quarters. Interior rivals Army Hall in unbroken floor space. Double loading bay behind the palm tree facilitates easy loading and unloading of grocery lines.

The new Nurses Home at Cook Hospital photographed from the Mangapapa Domain. Home, of the most modern design, is now in full use. A slip on the hill below the building resulted in an investigation being made of the stability of the hill, but set all fears at rest.

A start has been made with the new Mangapapa School at the corner of Te Hapara Road and Lytton Road.
