Gisborne residents have seen, en several occasions recently, large girders being transported through the city. This picture, taken by Mr W. Rennie, shows one of these, a double girder 108ft long, being manoeuvred into position over the Mangawehai Stream near the Hangaroa School. The old bridge is shown at left of picture and the truck in foreground is on a temporary bridge placed over the stream because the old bridge was considered unsafe.

Mr A. F. Salmon, well-known in Gisborne commercial circles, was one of the trophy winners at the N.Z. Veterans' Open Golf Tournament at Awapuni recently. His was the best net score in the qualifying round.
