New bridge at Puha, seen at right in this picture, was opened to traffic last month, is a big improvement on the old structure at left. The old bridge was built in 1898, contains big amount of kauri and other durable timbers, much of which is still in good order.
The bridge serves the Whatatutu area and other adjacent areas, including road to Arowhana station, about as far north as Tokomara Bay.

The duckshooting season started with a big bang on May 4. Although the weather was not the best (i.e., it was fine and still), good bags were secured by most shooters. Just in case the going was lean here, Huki Walker decided he had better go to Matamata and try his luck on Jim King's property. Jim (left), Owen Roberts, Chris. Gardiner, and Huki all got limit bags, as seen in this picture, but when Huki got back to Gisborne and found that limit bags were the order of the day here as well, he began to wonder why he had travelled so far.
