For his rescue of a youth at Napier in December, Mr Eric Hogge (right), formerly of Gisborne, has been awarded the Bronze Medal of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand. Mr Hogge is shown shaking hands with Bryan Wilson, of Taradale, the youth he rescued. Well-known in Gisborne, Mr Hogge, a son of Mrs M. E. Hogge, of 147 Ormond Road, is an ex-pupil of Gisborne High School, where he was sportsman of the year in 1952, a prefect, and captain of the First XV. He is now a Physical Education Instructor at Napier.

Mr Dick Crack, assistant at Gisborne Boys' High School, and district scoutmaster, who has been appointed Probation Officer at Paparua Prison, Christ-church. Mr Crack will take up his new duties in mid-May.
