The Arawa Shield comes to Gisborne. On their arrival at Gisborne railway station, the victorious girls' surf team was given a civic reception and a welcome by the Deputy-Mayor, Mr R. A. Keeling, M. P. Betty Toye (captain), June McGregor (coach), and Margaret McLean hold shield aloft for all to see.

When the Rev. E. C. Leadley, Methodist Minister at Gisborne, was in the Solomon Islands (he spent 8 years there), two boys in his class were Solomon Alu and Simon Rigamu. Recently, they have been in N.Z. as guests of the Methodist Youth Department, and spent a fortnight in Gisborne as guests of Mr Leadley
