Surfers Do Well At Wellington

The Gisborne surf life-saving team which attended the national championships at Wellington recently covered itself with glory. Waikanae won both the senior and junior surf team titles (the first time any club has pulled off this double), the Gisborne girls won the premier women's event, the six-man rescue and resuscitation contest, and Waikanae were finalists in every event for which they entered. Prominent finalists were Barry McLean, Roger McLean, Rod Turnbull (Waikanae), and Bill Gordon (Midway). The Gisborne girls also won the women's march past.
