Emergency For Radio Station

When a violent thunderstorm hit Gisborne one night last month, electric power was cut off in the central area of the city. When Station 2×G was due to come on the air at 6 a.m., there was still no electricity, but it came on the air just the same. Announcer Ross Stafford and technician Ted Andrews hot-footed it to the transmitter shed at Wainui, where, as sheep bleated in the paddocks close handy, and dawn broke over the nearby hills, they broadcast more or less as usual for a couple of hours.
