Cricketers Prepare For Aussie Match

For the first time in 30 years, a touring Australian cricket team will play in Gisborne next week. It will be only the seventh overseas team to visit the town. Naturally the occasion will be an important one for all players and followers of cricket. Complete arrangements have been made by the Poverty Bay Cricket Association for the match, and for the entertainment of the visitors.

Gisborne is one of the few minor associations to be allocated a match against the visitors, an honour denied even this year's Plunket Shield Winners, Wellington. The Aussies will come to Gisborne straight after the second test.

The match will be played at the Oval (above) on Wednesday and Thursday, March 13 and 14. Local players have been putting in a lot of practice of recent weeks, and by the time this "Photo News" is published the selector, Mr Gordon Harris (left) will have made his choice from the members of his training squad pictured on this and the next two pages.
